Towards Single Embryo Transfer in the Human (2003-2008)
The goal of this project is to explore the ethical concerns compelling research toward single embryo transfer and to examine the likely ethical consequences of such research.
Frozen Embryos in Research: A Survey of Canadian IVF Clinics (2003-2004)
Using only "spare" embryos to derive embryonic stem cells may well represent a compromise between the demands of science and the concerns of those opposed to intentional embryo destruction. Some researchers see this compromise as a significant barrier to embryo research, while others believe the limit to be morally required. Widespread acceptance of this compromise on embryonic stem cell research may well rest on the assumption that the number of "spare" embryos available and eligible for stem cell research under the new rules will be sufficient for future research needs. This assumption may be seriously flawed, however.
